Help and Advice relating to Eating Disorders

What if I don't think I have a full blown eating disorder but worry about food, shape and/or weight nonetheless? How do you know if you have an eating disorder?

There are specific medical and behavioral criteria that must be met to be formally diagnosed with an eating disorder. That being said, many people who don’t meet exact criteria for an eating disorder diagnosis, struggle terribly with relentless preoccupation and disabling concern around food and body shape/size. So often we hear people say that they don’t think they are “sick enough” for treatment and invariably, this is far from the truth. Most people who are very much in need of treatment do not fit the stereotypical image of an eating disorder. It is so important to speak with a treatment professional if you are struggling with thoughts or behaviors that are negatively impacting your life on any level. A CPC professional would be able to meet with you to determine the best way to address your individual concerns and can guide you in shaping an appropriate treatment plan tailored to your particular needs.
