Frequently Asked Questions about the CPC Day Program

What does a typical day in treatment in the CPC Day Program look like?

CPC’s core Day Program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. We begin each day with breakfast, which, like all meals at CPC, is a communal dining experience, during which one of our program therapists or nutritionists eats together with the Day Program members.  After breakfast [and every meal at CPC] we transition from our dining room into our group therapy room and take ample time to thoroughly process the physical and emotional feelings that emerge from each eating experience.  We then engage in a review of the goals and events of the previous afternoon/evening, highlighting what went well and/or as planned and also brainstorming alternative coping measures and solutions for the future in the case that one’s goals were not actualized.

Following breakfast, post-meal process and goal check-in, there are two group therapy sessions with a break in between, followed by a nutritious snack, and then another therapeutic group before lunchtime.  Group topics vary each day with some more structured formats as with our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy groups and then more open, free-flowing groups like interpersonal issues, family systems, body image and process.  Lunch occurs at 1pm daily and is followed by meal processing and the fourth group therapy session which includes a comprehensive afternoon planning and goal setting session during which the therapist and group members work together to plan the incorporation of skills learned in program and to anticipate challenges [and resolutions] that may occur after program hours.

After our core Day Program ends at 3pm, patients have their individual psychotherapy sessions, individual nutrition counseling sessions, family therapy and psychopharmacological follow-up appointments.  These appointments are scheduled by the patient directly with our providers.  Individual psychotherapy sessions take place twice weekly, individual nutrition therapy occurs once weekly, and family therapy and/or meetings with program psychiatrists are scheduled up to once weekly depending on the patient’s specific needs.

CPC’s Extended Day Program runs from 9 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. Our Extended Day Program is intended for patients who need additional structure and support in the afternoon and evening hours.  After completing the core program, patients in the Extended Day Program have a break during which time they may schedule individual appointments.  At 4:30 they participate in an afternoon snack followed later on by a supported dinner meal and group therapy session with a member of our core staff.
