Experiential Therapies: Art Therapy and Yoga Therapy
![]() |
CPC offers Yoga Therapy, led by a licensed social worker. |
Yoga Therapy: CPC’s yoga therapy provides a forum to reconnect with the body in a healthy, non-punitive way, using movement, breathing and guided imagery to help patients reduce physical and emotional stress, and feel more grounded and focused. The emphasis on non-judgmental present moment awareness enhances connection both with one’s internal emotional experience and the surrounding environment. The encouraging and accepting atmosphere of our yoga practice promotes a transition away from habitual, abusive self-talk to a more gentle, supportive and accepting relationship with the body. In yoga therapy our patients learn and practice new skills for grounding and self-soothing, which are essential components to the over-all coping skill arsenal they build in program.
Art Therapy: Art therapy provides a medium through which one can access an inner world of images, thoughts, ideas, feelings and conflicts. The creative process, which may include drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage, allows for spontaneous expression and facilitates conversation about parts of oneself that are not always accessible via talk-therapy alone. The creative process and discussion about the art itself, fosters insight while providing a non-threatening forum to work through conflict.
